Philosophy

The focus of the wrestling program is to introduce boys and girls to the sport of wrestling, teach them proper technical skills, encourage them to compete, and impart the values that wrestling can teach all of us. The goal at the youth age is not to train kids to win the local tournament or a national youth event. Competing is a tool for development and we will encourage the kids to attend tournaments, however the primary objective will be developing fundamentals, strength, fitness, and a passion for the sport of wrestling. We want to inspire the kids, allow them to have fun and learn to work hard.

Once our boys and girls reach middle-school and high-school, more attention and focus can be placed on training to win events and to set specific outcome oriented goals. However, the foundation of the program and training will still be on skill development and technical knowledge. Elite competitors with years of experience in the sport of wrestling still spend a large portion of their time continuing to develop their skill set and technical proficiency.

Wrestling is a complex sport that takes a lot of time on task to fully develop. It is also a sport that allows for multiple strategies, techniques, and unorthodox athletes to find success. Students that approach the sport with an open and creative mindset make the biggest gains, remain in the sport longer, allowing them to develop at a higher level.
